Reading’s Gift

Edition of 49 H 9 “, W 7 “, D 7 ” Price: $2,250 This was the first edition piece that I sculpted, inspired while I was still a student at BYU.  The idea came as I walked from one class to another through a grass courtyard.  The courtyard features a large carved stone ball, and on this day a student was seated atop the ball, reading.  It had instant visual appeal.  As I imagined it in my mind’s eye, the stone ball became the earth with four corners of books as the foundation.  Learning opens much of what the world has to offer.

It contrasts the belugas’ soft voluminous forms to the jagged rocks they pass by; suggesting how remarkable it is that they thrive in their frigid environment. This unique animal is both intriguing and striking. Highly intelligent and social, belugas are a delight to watch.

Guidance

Edition of 50 H 15 “, W 11″, D 11” Price: $5,500 The dolphin has become an icon of ocean life. Dolphins have so many characteristics that captivate our interest: agility, their social nature, and dedicated parenting. As I researched this piece, I came across a photo and a few paragraphs describing how a young dolphin remains a few feet from its mother for the entire first year of it’s life. The mother gently guides and directs her baby as they swim together. This act of motherly guidance became the motivation for this piece.
